About Elicit
Elicit is an AI research assistant designed around scientific literature search, cited research reports, paper summaries and systematic-review workflows. Its site describes searching more than 138 million academic papers and a large clinical-trial index, combining semantic retrieval with extractive analysis so researchers can inspect claims against underlying sources. Following the vendor’s September 30, 2026 product change, older standalone Find Papers, Extract Data and Chat with Papers workflows have been consolidated into the Research Agent, while prior sessions remain viewable and exportable. Elicit offers Basic free and different academic and industry pricing grids. Academic annual-equivalent subscriptions shown on the official pricing page are Plus $11/user/month, Pro $39/user/month and Scale $89/user/month, whereas industry Pro and Scale sections also advertise higher prices ($49 and $169 respectively with annual billing). The exact customer eligibility and billing toggle must therefore be preserved, not compressed into a universal $11 starting price. Elicit Pro adds a dedicated systematic-review workflow and a 5,000-paper screening limit; Scale adds team collaboration and more analysis capacity. Because output is AI-generated, source citations and research methodology still require independent human checking. An apparently similar G2 listing named elicit is categorized as conversion-rate optimization and does not reliably match this scientific research assistant; no matching G2 or Capterra aggregate is used.
Best for
Academic researchers, graduate students, evidence synthesis teams, clinical research analysts and R&D teams who need traceable paper search, extraction and literature review scaffolding. Less suitable for people expecting guaranteed comprehensive coverage, formal peer review, or validated medical/legal conclusions without human review.
Elicit pros and cons
Pros
- Semantic search across a very large scholarly corpus and clinical-trial search in appropriate paid tiers.
- Research reports and evidence tables cite source material, enabling manual checks rather than opaque responses.
- Free plan includes unlimited search and summaries plus limited agent/report usage.
- Pro and higher add guided systematic-review steps, paper screening and structured data extraction.
- Zotero import, export formats and higher-tier API/collaboration features support research workflows.
Cons
- −Even source-linked AI results can hallucinate, omit literature or misread study methods; they require systematic human verification.
- −Free-tier agent/report usage is limited, and systematic review workflow requires Pro or higher.
- −Academic and industry pricing differ materially; buyer eligibility and the billing toggle must be clarified before publication.
- −Systematic-review screening and extraction thresholds vary by tier and may be too restrictive for very large projects.
- −An enterprise security and no-training-by-default claim appears on a custom tier, not universally across all free/paid accounts.
