About CoCounsel
CoCounsel Legal is Thomson Reuters' AI environment for practicing lawyers and legal departments. Its current legal experience connects Westlaw and Practical Law authority with a team's matter documents to produce cited research, document comparisons and editable drafts. Attorneys can work through complex questions with Deep Research, inspect linked sources, analyze filings and contracts, and draft in Microsoft Word while keeping work organized in dedicated matter spaces. Not every module is included in every CoCounsel plan: Westlaw-powered Deep Research and litigation analysis are absent from the base Essentials configuration, and a sales consultation may be needed to confirm local legal content rights. Thomson Reuters says the next-generation CoCounsel Legal experience launched in the US in August 2026; a vendor India site exists, but availability of those exact features in India is not confirmed. For legal teams, the appeal is specialist, verifiable workflows; it remains a human-supervised assistant, not a substitute for legal due diligence.
Best for
Law firms, in-house counsel, litigators and legal operations teams that need traceable research, contract review and drafting integrated with trusted authority. Poor fit for casual consumer legal questions, firms without Westlaw/Practical Law access or buyers requiring a self-serve fixed subscription.

- −Deep Research and litigation-specific analysis are excluded from the entry-level Essentials configuration.
- −The newest 2026 CoCounsel Legal feature set was first available in the US; India-specific availability remains unconfirmed.
